Hey there, my name is Petrus, I’m a Brazilian storyteller who’s lived in Australia since 2013.
My story with visual arts started a while back when I was a kid. I’ve always been that person in family events who happens to ‘know how to take good photos’ – I would most likely just make sure there was enough headspace, centre the subject and that would do for the point & shoot analogue cameras of the 90s. That won me the position of Family Photographer which was super cool at the time but it didn’t take me very far.
Fast forwarding a bit, I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Marketing & Creative Advertising (in Brazil) where I thought I could have brilliant ideas, design stuff and get paid to do it – ‘after all, there is lots of money in advertisement.’
Having handled cameras from such a young age I developed a natural look for framing and composing. When I landed on my first job at an advertising agency I took on the challenge to begin telling the stories that had to be told.
I’d also learnt a bit of animation, which led me to get a job at the second most popular TV channel in Brazil – Rede Record. I worked for the News programs and the pace was as fast as you can imagine – 200 million people generate a lot of News within 24 hours. It shaped my skills and turned me into a fast 2D After Effects animator.
In 2013 I won a scholarship in Brisbane to study at an English School and make videos in exchange for my studies. After ‘mastering’ the local language and further developing my storytelling skills I was ready to break into the Australian Film Industry.
As a one-man ‘production team’, I was hired by Orange Digital in 2014, where I have since been leading video production and telling stories for a range of different clients and industries.
